Plain Steamed Rice Cooking

Steaming rice is the most common way of rice cooking. Although it is not the easiest way but I will show the the trick that make steaming rice simple and error poof, getting a perfect bow of rice.
Type of rice Water required
Sweet rice 1 1/2 cups
Basmati 1 3/4 cups
Silk rice 1 3/4cups
CalRose rice 1 3/4 cups
Jasmine rice 1 3/4 cups
Firm long grain rice 2 cups
Parboiled rice 2 cups

Cooking instruction

As rice can be cooked in sauce pan or rice cooker, this section is split into 2. Just follow the cooking instruction below per your cooking ware available. Cooking in rice cooker is very convenient but require special ware (rice cooker), cooking in sauce pan does not require special ware but need little more attention.

Left over steamed rice must be kept in refrigerator or warmer. Never leave steamed rice over night in room temperature

For 2 Servings
Ingredients
1 cups rice
1-2 cups fresh water
1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
1 teaspoon margarine or cooking oil (optional)

Cooking with rice cooker

 

Pour rice to rice cooker pot and wash under running water till water is clear. Drain water out.

Pour in water,amount per above table. Add salt and margarine as preferred.

Wipe outside pot bottom dry before placing in rice cooker.

Follow cooking instruction provided by cooker manufacturer. If instruction is not available, just turn on power, set cooker to "Cook", close cover and wait till cooker turn off or switch to "Warm" automatically.

 

After rice is cooked, leave cover closed and let rice simmer in cooker for another 10-25 minutes. 

Serve warm in plate or bow.




Cooking with sauce pan

 

Pour rice to sauce pan and wash under running water till water is clear, Drain water out. 

Pour in water, amount per above table. Add salt and margarine as preferred.

 
 Close pan cover and heat on a stove till boiled.

 
 When rice boil, reduce heat to low and stir rice gently for 1-2 minutes till water become thick and rice soft.

 

 Close cover and reduce heat till very low and let rice simmer for 2-3 minutes then off heat.

When rice is cooked, leave cover closed and let rice simmer for another 10-15 minutes.

 
 Serve warm in plate or bow.
